ABOUT US

The past to the present

Carr Agricultural Group laid its foundations in the late 1970s when Greg Carr and his wife Glenys began working as baling contractors and farmers at Tinwald. Agrifarm Machinery Ltd was established in 1991; this farm machinery service and repair company filled a gap in the market and was a natural progression for the Carr family business.

Five years later, in 1996, Carr Agricultural Group took on the Landpower Ashburton franchise, and together Agrifarm and Landpower sell, service and provide parts for some of the top brands of farm machinery in the world. Agrifarm has since grown to include branches in Christchurch and Timaru, servicing clients throughout the greater Canterbury area and the West Coast.

In 2000, Carr Agricultural Group bought Winslow Feeds, a ruminant stock feed mill. After spending 5 months completely redesigning and rebuilding the factory, they developed and launched seven core ruminant stock feed products and brands for sale in the South Island market. In 2002 Winslow Feeds expanded into pasture grain and seed sales. Meanwhile, the original farm contracting side of the Group has continued, with the baling of hay, straw and silage undertaken for farmers throughout Mid Canterbury. Today this arm of the business is the Baling and Transport Division of Winslow Feeds.

In 2004, the Carr Group extended their Landpower business by taking on the Landpower Timaru franchise. This move has greatly complimented their customer base from earlier combine sales in the area.

The Carr Agricultural Group head office is based site in Tinwald, Ashburton. In addition to the three subsidiary companies, Carr Agricultural Group launched the Carr Agricultural Group Institute. The Carr Agricultural Group established the institute to foster excellence and growth in the agricultural service industry. The institute will provide help with training and qualification attainment to employees of the various subsidiary companies, and in the future, to others outside of the company.

Carr Agricultural Group also has various property interests. It owns and operates a farming operation of sheep, deer, beef and crop, and also owns commercial sites in the Ashburton area.

Carr Agricultural Group is dedicated to putting back into the community it operates in. It has been a major contributor to many community projects and is a key sponsor of the Southern Rugby Club. Even down to little things like towing the Life Education Trust’s van around Ashburton schools, Carr Agricultural Group likes to help, and is always endeavouring to give back and support the community in any way it can.
